Soldier Systems Technology Roadmap:
ICee Contributors Speaking Opportunity Contest

Publish a relevant technology article in ICee-Wiki and get the chance to get one of the speaking opportunities at the Survivability/ Sustainability/ Mobility Workshop!

Contest Overview and Period

After the successful C4I-Sensors contest, a new contest is on. The second ICee Contributors Speaking Opportunity contest begins on March 24, 2010, and ends at 17:00 (5:00 p.m.) EDT on May 6, 2010. There will be four (4) draws on May 7, 2010, and each winning article will provide its author or representative with the opportunity to give a short presentation about their technology later on during the Survivability/ Sustainability/ Mobility Worshop on May 12 and 13, 2010. The participation of all contestants will also be highlighted during the workshop. Up to 200 people from Canada and the U.S. interested in future soldier survivability and protective equipment capabilities are expected to attend the workshop.

Eligibility Rules

  • You must be a registered ICee user to participate.
  • Your organization (from industry or academia only) must have contributed to the ICee-Wiki by publishing a technology article before May 6, 2010, at 17:00, the deadline for submitting new articles.
  • One person from your organization must have registered to attend the Survivability/ Sustainability/ Mobility workshop and must be available to present the article on March 13, 2010.
  • The technology article should be relevant to the soldier Survivability/ Protective Equipment domain (PPE, Camouglage, Clothing, Footwear, Load Carriage Systems) and include at least two full pages of text with supporting pictures, graphs, or tables embedded in the wiki page. An example of an article meeting the standard is provided on the ICee wiki at:
    https://strategis.ic.gc.ca/app/scr/pssb/wiki/display/cllb/Integrated+helmet+system
  • The presentation will be done using only the material included in the ICee-Wiki page (PowerPoint files attached in the wiki allowed).
  • Although the contest officially starts on  March 24, 2010, all Survivaiblity/ Sustainability/ Mobility-relevant pages entered since the launch of the ICee web tool are eligible.

How to Enter

If you are not a registered user you can register through the Industry Canada Registration page.

Note: There is a delay of up to 24 hours for your account to become active. You can then create your technology article in the ICee-Database and publish it in ICee-Wiki. As mentioned above, the article must provide sufficient information and details (2 pages minimum) and must also be relevant to Survivaiblity/ Sustainability/ Mobility Equipment.

Only one speaking opportunity will be provided per person and per organization to provide the equal chances to all. Each organization can enter as many different technology articles as they wish to maximize their chance of winning.

To facilitate the review of Wiki articles, you should include the words PPE Contest in the ICee database keywords field. This should be done for all articles, including the ones entered before  March 24, 2010. Participants who have included these keywords will be notified by the ICee administrator that their articles will be considered for the contest. Alternatively, you can also send an email message to ICee Administration, confirming your interest in participating in the contest. All articles will be reviewed by a selection committee to confirm that the eligibility criteria specified previously are met.

Draw and Speaking Opportunity

Four 10 minutes speaking opportunities will be offered during the Survivability/ Sustainability/ Mobility workshop the afternoon of Thursday, May 13, 2010, as per the workshop agenda. The draw will be conducted at noon (12:00 EDT) on Friday, May 7, 2010, at the Industry Canada TRM Secretariat in Ottawa. The winners will be contacted to confirm that they will be available to present. If any offer is declined, additional draws will be made until the four successful speaking opportunities are filled.

Participants Recognition at Workshop and in Proceedings

All the organizations having participated in the ICee speaking opportunities contest will also be recognized at the workshop by mentioning the number of articles published. This information will also be recorded in the workshop proceedings and reports. As part of the last notice sent to workshop participants on May 7, 2010, a list of articles submitted for the contest will be provided as this will be considered as supporting technical material for the workshop.

Miscellaneous

The organizers of the ICee speaking opportunity contest will not be held responsible for losses or personal prejudice resulting from the awarding of the speaking opportunities of this contest.
